Diggs New Toolbar has Bloggers Fired Up

Postby Sheryl Loch » Sun Apr 05, 2009 3:39 pm

Looks like Digg is making the headlines in many blogs this week.

They have installed the new Digg toolbar. It has some bloggers fired up, some don’t care, and some have no idea what it is.

I have been trying to watch this topic this week and see what others are thinking but, no one has put their foot down yet. Just a lot of talk.

I understand that by Digg using the new tool bar they will shorten your URL, your post is in an IFrame on their site, it renders your link useless, backlink is worthless, you are now left with the hopes of getting pure clicks.

I think what many worry about is that Digg will out rank their own blog for their own content. We have seen this as a problem on other sites but, I think this will cause more hate and discontent than before.

Digg had DoFollow links but, that may not help now with the new tool bar.

Here is a post (url not shortened) that is easy to read with some good information Diggbar Launched URL Shorteners Webmasters Cry Foul

I have read a gazillion post but, some are just to confusing or just a bunch of crap posted by the bloggers that already have a million backlinks and a page rank of 6+.

Umm, they seem not to care about the little things. LOL!

So what do you think?

I could say more but, think I will just wait and see how the conversation goes.

Hey, I live in Vegas I should start a pool with some odds on how many bloogers have fits or how many push to boycott Digg

Wow I didn't realize what you were doing all afternoon. I have only seen a couple posts about this so really the only conclusion I can draw really is from your post. Considering the blog post you made last week I don't Dig you anymore Dig may be a total waste of time for many people. Unless you are a Guru with thousands following them and as always they really don't care, they made it that is all that matters.

Smart people will just not go there anymore after this, if they understand that using link shortners and I-frames do nothing for their site. Imagine getting out ranked by your own content on another site. How uncool is that. Dig dosn't really matter only to the Big boys anyway they always dominate the front page.

Thanks for your investigative work.

The Digg Toolbar debate is still on. Seems more bloggers are turning the bar off!

Some articles say it will not effect your site, ranks, links...While others are fully against their site being put in an iFrame and shortening their link.

Here is a post that will enplane how to place a 'frame breaker' on your site. It is just a small piece of code and looks fairly simple to do. How To Remove The Digg Bar From Your Blog this is written by Kevin Muldoon of BloggingTips.com.

While your there be sure to take a look at the comments section and see how others are reacting to the new Digg bar.

If you are a Digg user and do not want the Toolbar to appear when you are opening sites from Digg, you can go into your Settings and click the dropdown box as Never Show DiggBar for external Links.
This will only help when you if you are a member and clicking links that you find on Digg. It will not keep your site from being viewed in the iFrame by others.
