Las Vegas Unemployment

Postby Sheryl Loch » Sat Jan 24, 2009 12:10 pm

I was watching the news the other night and heard this -

‘The Las Vegas Unemployment office had 400 people on the phone line at 1 time.’

At first I thought wow, what a wait time that would be. Then it sunk in a bit deeper, I am betting that this is becoming common place in many areas.

I then thought about the people that work at the unemployment office. That many people waiting that long on hold have to make them a bit grumpier.

Nevada’s unemployment rate was 8 percent in November 2008,

I would honestly say the amount of people that are out of work is really understated. There are so many workers that are out of a job and are not eligible for unemployment so, they would not even be counted here.

Las Vegas had a job fair with 200 openings and 12,000 applications came in. That is 12,000 people looking to find a way to use their skills to earn money.

So when you are working online and get upset because you have spam in your box, maybe your sales are not what you had hoped for, or you wonder if all of the work you have been doing is worth it…
Remember, you should be happy that you have the skills and the knowledge to have your own business.
You are the one making the choices about your future.
There is no cap on your earning capabilities, you are in control.
Think of yourself as a business owner, not someone trying to make it online.

Keep moving forward!

You are so right Sheryl. I spoke with a friend last week that lives in Pahrump and she said that 200,000 peope are losing their jobs monthly - that number is staggering! Luckily she and her husband both have skills that let them continue to run their own businesses.

The headlines today in the San Diego Union Tribune said that our unemployment rate is 9.3% and as you said, I'm pretty sure these numbers are becoming true everywhere.

Now more than ever I am so happy and thankful that I chose to build my own business(es). Imagine having to rely on a corporation right now for your continued livelihood?
On a quest for geographical and financial freedom with a goal of helping others.

I know that the San Diego ship yard was always bringing in workers from slow yards but, not sure as they are doing that as much. They might have plenty of people wanting work from the area.

In today's Las Vegas Review Journal there is an article of how many strip properties have stopped construction. They are loosing millions by stopping construction but, fear it would be a loss of Billions if they continue. Strip's Resort Boom Fizzles they are even thinking that conventions will be sending less reps per company. When we start loosing tourist for shows & gaming it's bad but, the convention center is a huge part of Vegas income.

Pahrump is so small, I know many of their residents commute to Vegas for employment. Your friends are probably feeling the effects of their neighbors loosing jobs.

I would bet that we will see so many more people looking to get online business'. I think those of us that have been online have a real head start on those that will be jumping in soon. I would be happy to think that I am not the last one to the party & struggling for a seat.

Things will get better but only for those that are willing to make it happen.

I've read that when it comes to being online that 'who you know' & links are currency. Well, then heck I am getting richer everyday! I am soon to be like an online Donald Trump. LOL!

Today 3/20/09 The local news stated the Nevada Unemployment rate was at 10.1 %. That is double what it was last year at this time.

That means that 1 out of every 10 people is out of work. No wonder we have so many people asking if they can do any odd jobs for you.

Station Casino's maybe filing for bankruptcy. Not sure if they will be closing any of their Vegas business' but, that would put a whole lot of people out of work.
