School anxiety - How to help your child

The start of school while wonderful and smooth for many children and bring great anxiety to some. New classrooms and routines after a summer off is a recipe for School Anxiety. Some children have a harder time with transitions then others. Those that have a hard time are more prone to anxiety in general with new situations.

There are many things parents can do to help their child transition more smoothly into school and help stop school anxiety. It can take time and patience, but it can be done. Depending on the age and personality of your child, different techniques might work or not. The key is getting the child into school. The longer they are out the more anxiety producing reentry is.
