Sometimes you don't really want to even bother with contacting them because you are not informed enough about what kind of visitor stats they have.
Maybe you are afraid that the cost may be to far out of your range...
Well, Technorati may have a solution to your advertising questions.
They have a Brand New Beta Advertising Program Self Service Advertising for Blogs & Social Media
On their new site you can Buy or Sell ads.
You can see which sites offer CPC or Weekly charges. You even see how much those fees are ahead of time.
Some sites offer Text or Button ads.
They also have each site selling ads listed with their Cost per week,
Average Views per week/ad,
Repurchase percentage (how many advertisers repurchase ads on the same site)
And the Alexa rank for the site.
When you first Go to the BUY tab you can choose Weekley or CPC,
It will then pull up pages of sites offering space.
CPC - They say once you have picked the site you would like to advertise on, written your ad, then it is only about 10-20 minutes after they receive payment until your ad is showing.
You can also set a limit of money to be spent each day (or total) on an ad you place.
Weekly Ads - These can be bought for a minimum of 1 day up to 12 weeks. Technorati does offer discounts for advertising that is over 1 week.
To be a seller - I did not register. It does look like some sites are selling ad space for $1 a week, some are $5..... It seems to depend on the amount of visitors.
If you have an oddball niche, you might be able to get a good deal on ad space. The traffic on some small niche sites might not seem like much compared to a site like Mashable but, may be good for your target audience.
Once Technorati Engage is in full swing they will also offer Skyscraper, Medium rectangle, and Full Leaderboard Banners.
I could tell you other parts that I read on the site but, once you look around you can see they have a pretty good Help section.
Let me know what you think about the prices or if you join, tell us how it goes!

PS. The link in this post is NOT an affiliate link (not sure if they even have those). I make no money for telling you about this.
