Why Namecheap for your Domain Names

Postby Brad West » Fri Apr 10, 2009 7:02 pm

A short story about how we were introduced to Namecheap.com

This is something that we learned the hard way and don't want anyone else to have to go through the same agony. We had our sites and domains held hostage for a couple weeks until we threatened to contact ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) good people to know when you have a similar problem.

We were introduced to Namecheap by our host. Most hosts have an account to sell domain names and make a little extra cash by selling and sometimes hosting your domain. Bj who is a co-owner of Lowcost-webspace said he showed no interest in doing the domain sales thing when there was a much better option.

At Namecheap you open up your own account that you have control over, to buy and sell domain names. The whole concept totally rocks.

Namecheap.com has no affiliate program

Offtopic: Lowcost-webspace does have a one time affiliate program for referrals. You are actually required to have an interview with BJ before your hosting purchase. He likes to communicate through SKYPE, this is cool because if you have a problem you have a direct line to your solution.
Just so everything is out in the open.

How to Redirect Your DNS with Namecheap

Postby Brad West » Fri Apr 10, 2009 7:34 pm

A little how to to redirect your DNS (domain name server)
This was very cool because it had been so long since I had done this I forgot how to. I put in a support ticket with my problem and had a response within a couple hours. Namecheap has great service that is number one in my book for choosing any company.

After I bought my domain names for this site I chose to allow Namecheap to use their domain name servers to host my purchases. This will allow the bots to find your purchases and index it, otherwise you can't call up your site with your domain name.

To retrieve your DNS from a site this is what you have to do.

In order to update your nameservers to Namecheap's, you will need to log into your account and click on "manage domains" and then on click on the domain you wish to modify and then on " Transfer DNS Back to Us"
You will need to allow up to 48 hrs. for the nameservers to propagate, but you can update your settings at anytime.

Now to transfer the DNS to your desired servers.

To set up your host records, you will need to log into your account and click on "Manage Domains"
Then click on the domain and then on "Edit Selected".
You will then click on "All Host Records" from the left hand side menu and enter the desired information.
(In this case I was setting up a Blogger blog for testing directing to ghs.google.com) and choose "cname" for the redirection.

You will also need to set up your site to accept the newly directed domain.
