Forum and Blog Links vs Twitter and Friendfeed Links

Sticky Links - links that have lasting power!

Are the backlinks you are working hard at getting, staying in place and still giving you hits?

I have some links that I placed in blog comments about a year ago that are still bringing me hits. I think there are a couple of reasons for this.

A. The article is prime for keywords that are still very useful.

B. It is a very popular site that has mass traffic sorting through the older post.

C.The author is good at bringing new light to that article by sending fresh links to it.

Now, these links are only bringing in hits because the readers see my comment and click my link.

This is why I have found getting hits on your links by viewers is done mostly when posting on forums or blog comments. The links are always there for other people to see.

Forum conversations of course can be brought back from the ‘dark ages’ if they are of good content, good explanatory title, and have lots of replies.

Whereas places like Twitter and Friendfeed are a hit and miss game. You send your link and it is gone in seconds. Your follower’s see it or they don’t.

The only reason I am bringing this up is because so many people are now relying on only Twitter or Friendfeed for all their traffic.

Not sure how many hits everyone else gets from sending a link through Twitter but, I bet I am between 20-50. This also depends on the time of day and who is on. Yes, I watch for my favorite people and retweeters to decide when I send my good links.

I have to agree with you Sheryl. This is coming from an old thread miner, When I am out looking on Forums or Blogs for someplace to post and answer to I always use the Search. Say I have backlinking on the brain and need to find posts to respond I use the search.

People need to learn how to use the tools that are available and search for good threads or posts. You will see an increase in your traffic posting to things you actually know about.

Twitter is a fast paced crap shoot when you are trying to get attention there. But one thing you can count on your tweet is always there somewhere unless you delete it. so good tweets are always there for the bots to index. Don't think for a minute that Google isn't preparing and creating the algorithms to incorporate twitter into their search results right now. Ever since the first wisp of wind carried the idea that Twitter would be the number one search engine on the internet, I would pretty much guarantee that Google formed a team to address the Twitter Phenomenon. This means that even after you have sent out a tweet, productive or not, with the correct keywords you will be brought up in Google searches at some point.

Forums and Blogs
are still very powerful, I have forum posts that still appear from a couple years ago.

Just a little addition Yahoo seems to have developed their own little app for Twitter, Sheryl just downloaded the application that also runs as an Adobe Air app, and seems to run well with TweetDeck up and running also. Here is the thread for that. Yahoo Sidelines Twitter Search
