Picture Theives Stealing Band Width

If you have pictures that you host on your server and are wondering if other people have linked to them and are sucking your band width – I have a simple tip that may help you find out if this is the case.

Simply grab the URL to your picture, pop over to Yahoo Site Explorer place the picture link in and hit search.

Click the button that says INLINKS. This will then let you see site linking in to that URL.

If the picture is a banner or something that may have several links to your own site then you can exclude the home domain incoming links by going to SHOW INCOMING LINKS – open the Drop Down box and choose EXCEPT FROM THIS DOMAIN.

Do you know all the sites listed? If not then it most likely means that some lazy butt is using not only your picture but, also your band width.

You can also do this with pictures you have on places like Flickr. Yes, people will steal them even if you specifically state not for use by others.

Sorry to say that if the thief has downloaded your pics & then placed them on their own server or another site then this will not help you find them. But, I can only fix so many problems a day. LOL!
