Does A Networking Sites Page Views Change Your Mind

Postby Sheryl Loch » Thu Jan 07, 2010 3:14 pm

Cnet has an article today showing the Page view graph of social networking sites.

Facebook is way ahead of the others. In fact they have it listed at 260 billion page views a month.
I think that will lead a mass of marketers to start trying to spam Facebook. Yes, there are already some that are trying it but, I’m not sure they are getting anywhere. Many of us only “friend” people we know in real live or have known online as trusted.

I personally do NOT accept people that I do not know. I don’t care if we may have followed each other on Twitter or belong to the same program. That is where Fan pages or groups come in…I can always see you there.

Back to the Page view stats.
Just because FB is getting the most views do you think people are finding others?
Maybe it’s that freakin Farmville game that is giving all the page views?

Twitter is down the list a ways at #4.
That will lead all Twitter haters to boast how it is failing. What new users may not understand is that Twitter has so many 3rd party apps. I hardly ever go to the actual Twitter site. I give them Maybe 5 page views a week, only because I have to go to my profile to block scumbags.

One site that surprised me was NING – it is way down the list. That place has gazillions of “communities”. I guess not many people visit them?

You can see the Cnet post Pingdom: Facebook is killing it on page views

Will knowing which social sites get the most page views change the way you network?
Will you spend more time on another site that gets more views?
Or do the page views really count as much as some might think?

Taking a look at the Pingdome graph is kind of incredible. Facebook is huge but I find it is not as valuable as others for real interaction. Maybe I'm looking at the whole thing wrong but people are ether playing games or tending to just hang with there friends on there. Socializing with your friends it's great, I have allot of friends that have blogs there but no one seems to really interact outside their click. People won't even hit the like button if the read something they enjoy for gods sakes.

It could be that there are so many page views because people are lost. I know that is easy to do.
Interact people, networking and meeting new people are the lifeblood of success!

I don't really see the value of using Facebook for marketing my blog either. However, I do have it on there for my friends and family to read. I also only add friends and family I already know. FB seems to be a better place for personal socialization and playing games, scrabble is fun there, especially among old school friends and I still see the clicks going on at FB that high school had and I have to laugh because it's really pathetic to see. But oh well if it makes people feel better.

Page views don't mean quality views, finding that out real fast :)

@Brad, I think you are right that the page views come from people being lost. I know that I have to look at my Home stream & then look at the news stream just to see who posted what. Heck, I had to ask how to find the fan pages I joined...I couldn't find a list of the stupid things.

@Tam, I have never played a game on FaceBook...guess I would never even stay around the site long enough to figure them out (that is if I could even find them). I also never remember to log out so, people try to chat with me & I don't know it until they have already left & I am closing down tabs.

I also don't post pics at facebook, I have a blog to that if I want to share them. I would also rather them be on my own site than someone elses. Nope, I don't trust FB, they screwed a few people when they let 3rd party advertisers use photo's from users.

I have said for a long time that Facebook is the root of all evil.

I don't use Facebook much at all. I don't think I've ever used it to promote my blog. I did use MySpace for a bit, but I haven't been there for quite awhile now.

Twitter is my favorite, it takes less of my time and it brings me more traffic, but then like I said I've never used FB for that so it's not really their fault.

I swear that Facebook just keeps moving everything so, we can't find it. Then we have to click a million pages to find anything.

I wonder if it will get to the point when people are sick of trying to find common things they use & just stop going.

Kind of like when you go to a store to just pick up a couple of items & you have to wander the isles looking. Yes, the store figures that you will end up buying things you had not planned on but, some people just drive down to the next store because they are in a hurry (they know where the stuff is, they can go in, get it, & be on their way to more important things).

Sometimes change is good but, just moving shit because is not!

I'm sure they're just doing it to piss the women off. Guys never know where things are anyway so it won't make any difference to them

I really didn't want to go there Sire. I was actually trying to ignore the whole thing. If I really am stuck and I can't locate something I just ask Sheryl or Cait.

Just like when I'm talking about something and they ask me a question like "well what did they look like"? I usually come up with an intelligent answer like "I'danno"

You know what I hate Brad, when I'm looking everywhere in the fridge or cupboard or something and can't find what I'm looking for and the after complaining to the wife she just goes there and picks it out. I reckon it's some sort pf female conspiracy.

Actually Sire I have been trying to catch them hiding stuff they think you are going to need or use and hide it. Then with the expectation that you will finally break down and ask where it is they can immediately reveal its location. This making us feel inferior or inadequate in some way.

I was trying to be nice but I will reveal the conspiracy, It couldn't be us!
